For guitar solos, you want more distortion, more thickness, more sustain, and a louder sound.
That's why everyone uses things like overdrive, but in reality the sound gets buried.

If you play alone it might feel like the volume is louder, but in a band it's different.

If the amp is clean and has a lot of headroom it's a different story, but if the amp is crunch, it won't get any louder, it will just add more harmonics.

However, this pedal brings the sound forward without being buried. It doesn't cut off the low frequencies that are common with overdrive pedals.
It also responds well to guitar volume, and when turned down, you get a bell-like clean sound even when the amp is in crunch mode.
I use this effect myself on stage.
